HOLLYHOCK, alcea rosa: If you pull a hollyhock up by its roots with your bare hands it makes a pretty effective weapon for teaching a lesson to anyone who might be thinking of bothering you.

IRIS, Iris versicolor: Sure, I was offered the role of Iris Murdoch in the movie Iris, but the director didn’t share my vision of Iris as part outsider, part warrior, part loner, part bare-knuckle fighter, so frankly, I wouldn’t play ball. I have my integrity.
